Tortor Dance is One of Indonesia Traditional Dances
Tortor Dance is one of Indonesia traditional dances. This traditional dance come from Batak tribe of Tapauli, North Sumatra. Tortor dance played accompaniment traditional instrumen such as gondang (margondang), Batak traditional trumpet, flute, and others. There is no certain data who is creator of Tortor dance.
Historically, Batak trie danced Tortor when there is a customary rituals associated with spiritis. The dance often played in marriage, nor the King’s inauguration. Now on Tortor not only played when there is a special Batak ritual but also Tortor dance is a welcome dance when the tourist visiting North Sumatra. There many types of Tortor dances. Tortor Pangurason is mean cleanup dance. This cances is commonly held at big party, where the it has aim to clean the place first before party began by using lime to avoid the danger. The second types is Tortor Sipitu Cawan or seven bowls dance. It is usually held in during king’s conration ceremony. The other is Tortor Tunggal Panaluan (single panaluan). It’s usually held after disaster striken the village. This Single panuluan danced by shaman to get the problem solution.
The appeal of Tortor dance can be seen from the dancer movement. The Bataknesse said the movement associated with the legend of Tortor that spirit summned and enter to the statues that symbol of acestor. So, they danced and moved likely statue were moved dancing but with a rigid motion. Tortor also has spesific clothes and make up of the dancer. The dancer always wear traditional clothing namely Ulos from Batak tribes.
