Merapi mountain, may be can be called as the famous volcano in Indonesia, even in the world. Merapi Mountain, can be categorized as the most active stratovolcano in Indonesia. Of the 130 active active volcanoes in Indonesia, Merapi is the most active volcano and has had at least twelve eruptions that killed people. Merapi located between Central Java and Yogyakarta.

Mount Merapi has erupted regularly since 1548 until now. High 2968 metrs, it is located approximetally 25 kilometres in the north of Yogyakarta. Thousands people live on the slope of Merapi Mountain with villages as high as 1,700 metres (5,600 feet) above sea level. The name of Merapi itself can be translated as “Mountain of Fore”. Etymologically, "Merapi came from Meru – Api from javanese language. Meru means “mountain” refer to mystical mountain of Gods in Hiduism, and api means “Fire”.

As that active volcano smoke can be seen in the mountain top almost every day also several eruption has been killed thousand people. The uniquely from Merapi if the hot gas from large explosion called “wedus gembel”, that contains tons material from the inside of Merapi mountain.
