Larger than the regular A4 and filled with colour photographs, I thought it was a bargain at RM60 and was sorely tempted to buy it especially since I have been harbouring some thoughts of teaching Gavin how to play golf. I only hesitated after thinking about the countless books I’ve bought with all the best intentions to read but never did.
Besides, I’ve long since realised that a person might be good at a sport but that doesn’t mean they can teach it well. Secondly, the best way to learn a physical subject like sports is to get a real life coach. No amount of reading will give you the feel of being out on the golf course. I guess it’s a little like Hermione Granger trying to learn how to fly a broomstick in Harry Potter - quite frankly, you just can’t. Well, you can get the gist of it but that doesn’t mean you will be any good at it.
Most importantly, I have no idea whether Gavin will actually like playing golf once he gets out onto a golf course. I think that’s probably the most important factor of the three to consider. If he enjoys it as much as he does goofing around with his toy clubs, well, maybe I’ll see if the book’s still around. It’s pretty cheap from Amazon, too.
